Why Animal Protein Is Vital for Excellent Health

The raw vegan diet is a wonderful cleansing and healing diet, no doubt, but including some animal protein in your diet is important if you want to have great health. Animal protein contains all the essential amino acids important for health and development.

Amino acids like carnosine, carnitine, methionine and tryptophan cannot be found in plants. They are very important for brain health and they are essential in treating neurological disorders such as autism; neurodegenerative diseases like dementia and multiple sclerosis; mental disorders such as anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) and depression.

Some people that were diagnosed with anxiety and OCD have reported that they were healed by:

1. Eating a ketogenic or modified ketogenic diet 
2. Eating foods high in omega 3 fatty acids 
3. Taking high potency probiotics

When the above 3 things are done together, healing takes place because you are feeding your brain (which consists mostly of fat) a diet high in fat and research shows this is extremely beneficial.

Animal protein also contains other important nutrients that cannot be found in plants such as vitamin B12, vitamin D, choline and retinol (bioavailable vitamin A). Important animal protein sources include organic beef, turkey, chicken and wild caught fish.

Organic meat and wild fish contain bioavailable Omega 3 fatty acids rich in DHA and EPA. DHA can be obtained from algae but it lacks the other bioavailable nutrients readily available in fish. Flaxseed contains Omega 3s but it's not as bioavailable as the ones found in fish.

Studies show that many people on the vegan diet are deficient in these very important nutrients. I eat a high raw diet that consists of a small amount of meat and a lot of raw non-starchy vegetables and leafy greens.

When buying meat, it's important to buy organic, grass-fed meat. When it's grass-fed, it means that the cattle were not fed corn or soy but organic grass. Organic chicken and turkey obviously don't eat grass but their feed is organic. Organic meat is pesticide-free, hormone-free, antibiotic-free and pus-free.

It's best to eat meat with leafy greens and non-starchy vegetables because meat can be a bit acidic in the body after digestion. The leafy greens and vegetables can help neutralize the acid produced. Probiotic foods like sauerkraut, kimchi or kefir do an amazing job in providing balance and improving the gut microbiome.

Taking digestive enzymes 30 minutes before eating meat will help with digestion. Moderate amounts of meat can be eaten 2-3 times per week but in the case of people with neurological or mental disorders, it should be eaten every day because eating animal protein is necessary for long-term optimal health.
